Once upon a time a pair of human children lived in the mountains of Arfak, Manokwari, West Papua, Indonesia. They live together and combine love until the power of love perpetuates themselves into two large lakes that exist today. Even local legends say that each lake is inhabited by a male and female dragon. It is this gender dualism that ultimately makes local residents believe that these two large lakes are male and female. Therefore, local indigenous people named male lakes as Anggi Ginji and female lakes as Anggi Gita.
Lake Anggi which consists of two large lakes is located in the Arfak mountain reserve area and is located at an altitude of approximately 2,950 meters above sea level. To reach the Arfak tribe's residence, it takes about 3-4 hours to travel by using a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Must be with an off-road car because the road to this place has a high level of difficulty. Land roads with large stones and heavy rivers that must be crossed are the situation faced when heading to Anggi lake. Even not infrequently, the travelers who go to this lake will encounter landslides and obstructed for several hours until the landslide can be overcome. Therefore, the drivers of off-road vehicles who used to pass this road will not depart if the rainy weather is less friendly.
The journey to Anggi Lake is relatively long, but there is no need to worry because the natural scenery that we will witness can also make time forget. When we leave early morning from Manokwari, chances are we will see the beautiful sunrise among the mountains Arfak. This beauty will not pay off with the value of money and we will not stop being grateful if we watch it. The rays of the morning sun appeared among the great mountains as if uncovering the morning fog that still enveloped most of the mountainous terrain. The warmth of the sun will combine with the coolness of the original mountain air and produce coolness that is very comfortable to enjoy.
Arriving in the lake area, we will be greeted by the residents' villages which are generally indigenous people of the Arfak tribe. They have lived in this region since ancient times and have great respect for the beautiful surroundings. Their traditional houses, commonly called thousand foot houses, will be found along the village roads around the lake. Local people are generally friendly and have a much more polite attitude than the mountains of Papua in general. They are also renowned for the power of walking barefoot from one village to another village tens of kilometers away.
We will feel the distance of this trip too when we see Anggi Gita lake which is located lower than Anggi Ginji lake. Actually, there are two alternative paths to these two lakes, one through the top lane and one song through the bottom lane so we will see the ladies first. The tortuous cobbled dirt road connects these two large lakes. A tall mountain rises to separate the two lakes and to reach Lake Anggi Ginji, we will circle this mountain.
Lake Anggi Ginji and Gita have a fairly calm water, the difference lies in the color of the water. Lake Anggi Ginji has blackish water while Gita has bright blue water, this difference is caused by the reflection of the forests around the lake and various plankton found in the lake. We will also witness typical mountainous plants in both Anggi lakes, generally these plants are endemic to this place, which means that there are no other areas.
Lake Anggi is indeed difficult to achieve, but that will not mean when we witness the majesty of nature around the lake which is so amazing. In fact, according to local residents the awesomeness of Lake Anggi has been recognized by researchers from abroad. There are so many researchers who want to examine the depth of the second Lake Anggi, but no one has been able to dive and reach the bottom of the lake. Therefore, until now the depth of Anggi lake is still a mystery that has not been revealed. The mystery of Lake Anggi will continue to be an attraction and synergize with the unique Arfak mountains.
