Writing down the matter of Papua, it ceases to be amazed at the beauty of its unspecified region. This time how cool Papua is with Lorentz National Park included. Jayawijaya, Paniai, Merauke, and Fak-Fak are the four districts where Lorentz National Park is located. The area reaches 2.4 million hectares, so it is claimed to be the largest in Southeast Asia.
Lorentz National Park is not an ordinary conservation area like other areas because since 12 December 1999 the UN through UNESCO officially designated it as a world heritage site. Lorentz National Park is a representative of the most complete ecosystem of biodiversity in the Asia Pacific.
According to Wikipedia, besides having a very high biodiversity, there are also some peculiarities and uniqueness of the glaciers in Puncak Jaya and rivers that disappeared several kilometers into the ground in the Ballem Valley. There are 34 types of vegetation including swamp forests, riverbank forests, sago forests, peat forests, coral sand beaches, flatland / slope rainforests, rain forests on hills, heath forests, mountain forests, grasslands and lerak moss.
Lorentz National Park is also supported by amazing cultural diversity. The culture is estimated to be 30,000 years old and is the residence of the Nduga, Dani Barat, Amungme, Sempan, and Asmat tribes. It is possible that there are still more people living in remote areas of this wilderness who have not yet had relations with modern humans.
The Asmat are famous for their sculpture carving skills. According to his belief, the tribe is synonymous with forests or trees. Trees are considered as the living place of the spirits of their ancestors. The tree trunk is symbolized as the human body, its branches as arms, and its fruit as human heads. The same treatment is also given to mountains, rivers, and so on.
Lorentz was developed as a national park starting in 1997. The tourist facilities are still limited. So that tourists must prepare everything carefully, before coming to visit. This is indeed an attractive tourist area, but has not been managed optimally.
The best visiting season is August to December. To reach this area, you can reach it from the City of Timika. Pioneer flights can be relied on to reach the northern region of the city. The journey continues to the South, by boarding a ship located in Sawa Erma Port. After getting off the boat, you can follow the path until you reach the Trikora Peak.
Basic knowledge of mountain climbers, navigation and survival techniques, must be mastered by tourists. Make sure your body is in top condition. For the sake of your smooth running, you should contact the park manager before deciding to visit it. Natural scenery in Lorentz National Park is guaranteed extraordinary.
